Introduction of Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia Nervosa is a kind of eating disorder and it is a serious and popular eating disorder in America. The National Eating Disorders Association Statistic shows that there are nearly ten million females and one million males have an eating disorder that anorexia or bulimia in America in twenty century. Nearly eighty percentage women do not satisfied with their stature and ninety-one percent of women dieting to control their weight on college in America. Furthermore, over one-half teenage girls and one-third teenage boys use unhealthy way to lose their weight that fasting, skipping meals, smoking, using laxatives and retching.[1] Moreover, Anorexia nervosa also is a psychological sickness and it has the highest fatality percentage of any mental disorder.[2] Therefore, Anorexia nervosa is a dangerous and critical eating disorder and mental disorder in America. In addition, most models are thinner than nearly ninety-eight of women in America.[3] Most of Victoria’s Secret models do not eat food or drink water before fashion show in order to lose weight and they drink only protein shakes for nearly nine days before they have a show.[4] They think that it is worth because Victoria’s Secret fashion show is the bright spot in their life even though many models have anorexia that they have not appetite to eat any food and they become addicted for thin. Admittedly, America people would have an idea that they think thin means fashion and beautiful for most of models and stars are thin in America. It causes more people, especially are American women wants to be thinner and they do not care the price, so most of them try to abstaining to lose weight. However, it causes a great number of people to suffer from the eating disorder, Anorexia Nervosa because anorexia begins dieting to lose weight initially and the obsession of lose weight would control people body.[5]

What is Anorexia Nervosa?

Anorexia Nervosa also called anorexia; it is a kind of eating disorder and a psychological sickness. It is easy to effect female, especially teenage girls and most of the disorder begins in adolescence or early adulthood.[6] The feature is that most of people decide to diet with severe sport, however, it would cause anorexia. For teenage, Anorexia nervosa are strongly predicted by slump, uneasiness and bipolar disorder after they try to dieting.[7] Furthermore, Anorexia nervosa means lack of appetite that patients do not want to eat food and they would short of nutrition. Moreover, it means this eating disorder makes patient lose a lot of weight than normal people’s weight for similar height and age that fifteen percentage or more below the normal weight.[8] Therefore, it would harm patients healthy because of lack of food and nutrition; patient’s body would become weak and mentally would become nervous. The worst case is that it would cause patients to die because patients cannot eat food; their body would lack of support and mental part would become weak. It is the reason why Anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality than any mental disorder.[9] Consequently, this illness is very dangerous and has huge bad influence to patient’s life. However, Anorexia also is a treatable disorder if patient care early even though it needs a lot of time to care this disorder.

The causes of Anorexia nervosa are diverse because different people have different reasons and different experience. From Romeo’s book “Understand anorexia nervosa”, she mentions that the major symptoms of anorexia nervosa are disturbance in body envision, incorrect and confused understanding and cognitive interpretation.[10] In general, Anorexia nervosa is caused by some significant factor that psychological, sociocultural and biological factor. There are some major psychological causes that firstly most of patients have pressure to lose weight from their family and friends that they would sad because they think they are not thin. Next, many teenage be affect by culture norms that popular culture and television, magazines culture.[11] It means that a lot of people would be effect by models and stars in television and magazines because most of them are thin and beautiful and people admire them, most of people would have culture ideas that thin respect fashion and beautiful. Furthermore, there are some important biological reasons. One is that people have an anxiety and depression. Other one is that studies explain genetic component exert a significant function in effect the tendency of anorexia.[12] Admittedly, every patient has different cause; most of them also would have various symptoms.

Most of people who submit from the eating disorder, Anorexia nervosa have two major symptoms that behavior side and psychological side. There are some important performances from behavior side. In begin with; they look colorless, lose hair and they always wear baggy clothes to hide their body. Next, they like to cut food into some small pieces, always exercising and go to washroom after they eat little food. Then there is a major behavior factor for women that most of women who have anorexia would have not a normal period for three or more cycles. In addition, there are some psychological factors that one is that patients always think they are too fat, they need lose weight even though they are excessive thinness because of anorexia. Other one is that most of patient would become unset, depression, social withdrawal and they always hard to sleep at night, they would tire during the day.[13] Therefore, the symptom of Anorexia nervosa is diverse and various, the treatment of this disorder also is several according to every patient’s different level.

Treatment

In summary, Anorexia nervosa is treatable and has high percent to succeed. The most important thing is that patient need treated as soon as possible and need a long-term, detailed, comprehensive plan to care this disorder. However, the big problem is that many patients do not admit they have anorexia and they do not think they should care about this.[14] Hence, the support from patient’s friend and friend are very important, it can make patient to not deny this illness, understand the importance of treat anorexia and pay more attention to treat this disorder. The plan usually includes medication; family therapy and treat in hospital depend on patient’s different situation. Moreover, other treatment way that talks therapy to treat people also is very successful that it includes family therapy, group therapy and individual cognitive behavioral therapy.[15] Therefore, the treatment of Anorexia nervosa is not too hard and difficult; however, it needs the work hard of patient and the support of their family, friend.

Conclusion

Anorexia nervosa is a serious eating disorder and mental illness because it has the highest fatality percentage of any mental illness. Moreover, Anorexia nervosa is very popular and critical in America. In America, there are nearly ten million females and one million males have an eating disorder in twenty century. The disorder can tell people that people should not become addicted in order to seek for one thing. It would influence a lot and harm people because of excessive pursue. Moreover, people should study to control them because anorexia is caused by lose control.
